"You Can Be Stronger"

"You Can Be Stronger"

“You can be Stronger”, her World whispered in her ear…

When she sat in the clinic and was told it was a large cancerous mass in her breast that had already begun to spread.

And so she asked the necessary questions and prepared herself for a new chapter in life.

“You can be Stronger”, her World said smiling…

When she started losing her hair, losing her energy, losing her identity.

And so she took charge and shaved her own head, forced out daily exercise, and learned to make herself feel better in other ways.

“You can be Stronger”, her World said to her, this time louder…

When her biggest supporter left her suddenly one day.

And so she brushed away the tears of loneliness and abandonment and kept going. She stuck to her routine and didn’t look back.

“You can be Stronger”, her World told her yet again, a short time later…

When the news started pouring in cases of outbreak in which cancer patients in hospitals exposed to a virus passed away— as if their current battle wasn’t enough.

And so she unplugged from the world and busied herself with day dreams and fairytales instead.

“You can be Stronger”, her World boomed at her a few days later still…

She silenced the voices in her head telling her all the negative outcomes that could possibly come her way when it came time to go to the hospital alone for her final chemotherapy session.

And so she’ll go in alone. There will be no celebrations this day, but she’ll have her own victory dance alone in her head.

“You can be Stronger” her World shouted in her direction…

When told surgery may not grant her her wish due to the crisis we currently live in.

She pushed away her fears, hoping for a better outcome, but preparing for a body she doesn’t want to live in.

“You can be Stronger”, her World says in a compassionate tone.

For it can always be worse.

For you can stop breathing tomorrow.

You still have air to breathe, food to eat, people who love you, life to live…

So be strong, and carry on.

Have faith it’ll all be worth it. That it’ll all be okay…
